Introduction to
Digital Marketing:
Any marketing done through
the digital medium is known as Digital Marketing.
Digital Marketing was
first used almost 100 years back when it helped a show organiser sell their
show tickets through advertising their show on radio.
Many people don’t have a
clear idea about digital and internet marketing. Digital marketing and internet
marketing are two different terms.
Marketing of products or
services that consists of electronic devices such as TV, radio, smartphones, etc.
TV, radio, phones
marketing are offline digital marketing whereas social media marketing, content
marketing, email marketing comes under the online digital marketing.
Why is Digital Marketing
Important?
There was a time when we
used to see huge billboards especially alongside busy roads. This is
traditional marketing.
People had to invest a
huge amount in traditional marketing. They couldn’t even monitor if the
advertisement is reaching their target audience or not.
Many had a much less
income as compared to the expenses they did to market their products and
services in a traditional way.
Digital marketing is where
your attention is. You don’t have to move anywhere unlike traditional
marketing.
For eg, suppose you are
driving on a busy road and there’s a billboard at the side if the road, you
will have to move your eyes to look for what the billboard says and that could
make you loose your focus upon driving.
But digital marketing is
something different. You’re driving a car, you’re playing radio, digital
marketing can be done through this medium too, where you don’t have to disturb
your focus and you can drive safe.
Or just think that how
often will you look for a billboard when you’ve your smartphone in your hand.
A report says that 9% of
the drivers in the world are on the phone either texting or calling, this makes
it clear that billboards don’t have a future in the world of marketing.
Also, when you purchase or
rent a place to put an ad on it or while you put an ad in a magazine, you’re
taking a shot in the dark that it’ll reach your target audience, but the fact
is that monitoring this is impossible in traditional marketing.
The most cost effective
way to market the services or products is Digital Marketing in today’s world.
Digital Marketing allows
you to monitor if the ads are reaching your target audience or not.
Digital marketing has a
potential to keep your customers engaged.
About 2.34 billion people
(one third of the population on earth) use social media platforms regularly as
a report in 2019.

In traditional marketing
people had to wait for weeks or even months to check for what are the
startegies that’ll make their campaigns successful. But, such is not the case
with digital marketing. In digital marketing you can monitor the real time
results of your campaign and accordingly monitor the strategies of your
marketing.
Web analytics helps you to keep a track upon the
below things:
- the
number of visitors that come to your site,

you the pages they visited
- shows
you the time range that people spent on specific pages / site.
